Free Interactive e-Books from NASA
Posted by Brian Ventrudo
NASA has just released two free beautiful interactive ebooks, one about the discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope, and another about the upcoming replacement for the Hubble, the James Webb Space Telescope. Each book features not just text, but galleries of images, videos, and interactive features that help explain the science and technology of each telescope.
Links to the free books can be found here:
Note: If you don’t have an iPad, you can still get a non-interactive version of each ebook at the above links (but the file sizes are quite large).
Here’s a description of each book…
Hubble Space Telescope: Discoveries — Soar through the universe with the Hubble Space Telescope, exploring discoveries from dark energy to colliding galaxies. This highly interactive eBook features video, image galleries and more to reveal the record of scientific breakthroughs behind Hubble’s stunning images of the cosmos.
For more than two decades, Hubble has had a front-row seat for cosmic events: comets plunging into Jupiter, the explosive death of stars, the birth of new solar systems, and more. In the process, it has changed the face of astronomy. Learn about Hubble’s revelations and take a tour of the history and technology of the telescope.
James Webb Space Telescope: Science Guide — With a mirror three times the size of the Hubble Space Telescope’s, and an orbit far beyond Earth’s Moon, the Webb Space Telescope is preparing to show us a universe we’ve never seen before. Webb will see the first stars flickering to life in the most distant universe, penetrate clouds of dust to reveal newly forming stars and solar systems, and analyze planets around other suns for traces of potentially life-giving water.
This highly interactive eBook features video, image galleries and more to tell the story of the Webb Telescope – the science it will reveal and the cutting-edge technology designed to not just deal with the harsh conditions of space, but put them to its advantage.
